Equality between women and men, and diversity are fundamental values of the Union, which it sets out to promote across the whole range of Union actions. While progress has been made in those areas, more is needed to achieve balanced representation in decision-making, whether at Union or at national level. Without prejudice to the primary application of merit-based criteria, when appointing the heads of their national supervisory authorities and FIUs, Member States should seek to ensure gender balance, diversity and inclusion, and take into account, to the extent possible, intersections between them. Member States should strive to ensure balanced and inclusive representation also when selecting their representatives to the General Boards of AMLA.
